“acne vulgaris” is a skin infection which causes pimples or zits. It affects mainly the face and back areas. Although it can happen to anyone at any age, acne is predominant in teenagers and in people with oily skin. There are several remedies and treatments available to cure acne, some of which are quite expensive. However, the best way to cure acne is to prevent your skin from getting it. Some easy ways to keep your skin acne free are:

Touch me not: Touching the acne on you face will spread infection to other unaffected areas, too. Do not touch your face, unless you are washing it. Leave existing pimples or zits untouched. Do not squeeze or peel them.
Also make sure your hair or some loose bangs do not touch your face. Our hair also contains oil and when it touches your face can spread acne infection.

Keep it clean: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser at least twice a day. Don’t scrub, simply pat dry. This will remove access dirt and oil thereby helping reduce acne. Keep your pillow cases, sheets, towels clean. Wash your hair at least once in 2 days. If you wear glasses, keep those clean too.

Healthy diet: Eat healthy. Take plenty of fruits and vegetables. Avoid junk food and fats. Drink plenty of water. Eat food items like Asparagus, Avocado, Eggs, Milk, Nuts (such as almonds or hazelnuts), Seeds, Spinach and other green leafy vegetables, Wholegrain foods which are good sources of Vitamin E to help avoid acne. Even without acne these foods are great for your skin.

Sweat it out: When we exercise, we sweat which is a good way to detoxify our body. This is a natural way to avoid acne. Wash your face and also your hair nicely after sweating so as to get rid of toxins excreted by our body.

Plenty of rest: Lack of sleep, excess stress is also known to cause acne. So avoid stress. Get plenty of rest.

Keep your makeup natural and minimal: If you are fond of wearing makeup make sure you use safe cosmetics. As far as possible go for natural ones.
Home-made face mask of honey, rose water and tomato juice can help you stay clear of acne and get a glowing skin. Simply add these ingredient together to form a smooth paste. Apply after washing your face, leave for 20-25 mins and wash off.
Even if you do wear cosmetics, make sure you take off all make up before going to bed.

In spite of doing all these if your skin is extra-sensitive or are undergoing hormonal changes (like in pregnancy), you might still get some acne infection. Stick to these regime regardless and make sure you take natural remedies as they have no side-effects.

Stay beautiful!!!

Acne treatment
Acne can be quite painful and embarrassing to deal with. Apart from maintaining a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water, you can use home made face mask to help reduce acne. Mix Tomato juice, rose water and honey to make a smooth paste. Apply evenly on you face. Leave on for 15 mins, wash and pat dry. Helps reduce acne.
Alternatively, slice a lemon and apply directly to your acne affected skin. This will heal pimples and reduce acne. In case your skin feels itchy or irritated discontinue immediately, as this can be too strong a treatment for some skin types.

Blemish solutions
Have blemished, spotty skin? Go get some oranges to help you out. Dry some orange peels, powder and store. When needed add some rose water to make a smooth paste, apply to you face and let it get dried. Wash well with plain water (no soap) and pat dry. Use regularly for a blemish free skin.

Dry, rough skin solution
When the weather becomes harsh and your skin feels dry, rough try these home made skin care remedy. Cut pieces of cucumber (do not peel skin) and grind well. Extract cucumber juice from the ground paste. Add this cucumber juice to lime juice in equal measure and mix well with few drops of rose water. Apply on your face and let it stay for 25 to 30 minutes. Wash well with cold water and pat dry. Welcome to a skin that feels great to touch.

Get that glow
Attending a party? Special occasion? Mix turmeric powder with milk and leave it aside overnight. The mixture becomes greenish in color. Apply on your face and hands, let dry and wash off. Say hello to your glowing skin. In fact turmeric with milk has been considered so special for skin care in India that would-be brides have to undergo a ritual to take this treatment as a part of wedding ceremonies.

Help for sunburnt skin
Come summer and we all love to hang out in the open. But what do you do if your skin gets burnt easily? Here’s help: Mix a portion of tomato juice with double the amount of buttermilk. Apply, let dry and wash. Your parched skin will feel much better.

Here is the “Oats Upma” recipe for you. Rest will follow

Ingredients:
1. Oats – 1 cup (Quaker Instant Oatmeal)
2. Water – 2 cups
3. Onion – one medium
4. Tomato – one medium
5. Peanuts – a handful
6. Green chillies: about 2-3, vary as per your taste
7. Spluttering:
     Mustard seeds: 1 tsp
     Asafetida: 1 pinch
     Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp.
     Oil: 2 tsp
8. Salt to taste

Preparation:

1. Finely chop onion, tomato and green chilly.
2. Keep water on flame and start boiling it.
3. Roast oats till they become crisp and keep aside.
4. In a kadhai, heat 2 tsp of oil and add peanuts. Roast till crunchy. Remove and keep aside along with oats.
5. In the same oil add mustard seeds, asafetida. When these splutter, add chopped green chilies and onion and sauté till onion turns translucent. Add tomatoes. Sauté till tender. Add turmeric and mix well.
6. To this mixture add, roasted oats, peanuts and salt. Mix well.
7. Turn off the heat and add water which will be boiled by now. Stir to avoid lumps and cover for about 2-3 mins.
8. (Optional) Garnish with grated coconut and / or chopped coriander leaves (cilantro).
Serve hot.
To save time during morning rush, I pre-prepare the oats+peanuts+onion+tomato+salt mixture the night before and refrigerate it. In the morning I simply heat-stir this mixture a little, add boiling water and get my oats upma ready to eat.
